When explorer Patrick Michael Sullivan disappeared into the barren hills of Mongolia, the world took little notice. Eight decades later, his great-grandson, Jack Sullivan picks up the gauntlet and attempts to solve those mysteries.  Following in Patrick's footsteps is a decision that puts him squarely in the crosshairs of unforeseen enemies.  Challenged by a spiraling inner conflict and an unlikely romance, Jack latches onto a scientific expedition that wants no part of him.  As the scope of the quest mounts, he learns that what he's seeking is just the tip of the spear.
